You organize an information evening for refugee women on the subject of finding accommodation

About the volunteering opportunity
Many of the women living in the accommodation for refugees have a residence permit in Germany and could move out of the shared accommodation. However, they have no experience of how to find a private apartment in Germany and especially in Munich. They need knowledge about the real estate platforms, how to search, what to look out for, how to apply and possibly also support in preparing the documents. It is a pioneering project, there may be a great demand for it and we may be able to offer it more often.
Your Tasks
You explain to the women what platforms there are for finding an apartment, what the abbreviations mean, what they need to look out for, e.g. commission, what they should pay attention to during the first viewing, etc.
What's needed
You should be familiar with the housing market or have looked for an apartment yourself several times or in the recent past. Some of the women speak German well, some only at a basic level. It is important that you speak slowly and clearly and use simple words. You also need patience, tolerance and empathy. You should really enjoy explaining things, even if you are asked the same question three times.
Time required
If the event is well received, we can organize the evening more often, e.g. every 3 months or in other accommodation for refugees.

Diakonie München und Oberbayern - Innere Mission München e.V.
"Die Innere Mission" helps people with a migration background. Whether as first aid for refugees and asylum seekers or through useful offers for migrants already living in Munich with permanent residence. The employees of our social and migration services often know the challenges from their own experience. They know where to start in order to begin a new life in a foreign country.
