About the volunteering opportunity
As part of the "Berliner Kältehilfe", we are looking for committed volunteers to actively support us in Charlottenburg during the cold period from December 20, 2023 to April 30, 2024. This important project offers approx. 150 homeless people unbureaucratic overnight accommodation and basic care from 8 pm to 8 am.
We are looking for 3 volunteers each day to support the project between the hours of 19:30-22:30 . The help of volunteers plays a crucial role in providing guests with a warm and safe place to stay.
We warmly invite you to make a meaningful contribution and provide safe shelter and support to homeless people during the cold spell. Join us and be part of this important commitment!
Your Tasks
- Reception and registration of guests (check-in, baggage drop-off, provision of toiletries)
- Preparation of breakfast sandwiches for the 150 people
- Assistance with serving hot meals and drinks (coffee/tea)
- Provision of camp beds and distribution of sleeping bags
What's needed
- Empathy and sensitivity: An empathetic approach to homeless guests is essential in order to build trust and create a supportive atmosphere.
- Communication skills: Volunteers should be able to communicate clearly and respectfully, especially when welcoming and assisting guests.
- Ability to work under pressure: As working in cold weather assistance can sometimes be challenging, it is important that volunteers are able to work under pressure and remain calm even in emotionally demanding situations
- Ability to work in a team: Volunteers do not work alone, but as part of a team. The ability to work together cooperatively is therefore crucial.
What to bring
- Valid identity document with photo
- If necessary, health pass (formerly: red card), but occasional or regular commitment is possible, even without a red card.
Time required
