About the volunteering opportunity
For our work with children/families we are looking for:
in the area of family mentors:
Volunteers who go into families and support them. As a rule, families need support in everyday situations (e.g. looking after a child, contacting other families...) or crisis situations (e.g. illness of a parent or child) or when dealing with authorities, contacting kindergarten or school. As a family mentor, you are a voluntary partner, confidant, helper and friend of your family. You are not a substitute for professional support and work together with interagency specialist services and professional partners. But even if you are not a professional, you are an important support for our families in their often challenging everyday lives.
in the area of learning guides:
Volunteers who study with school children in grades 1-4 in Trudering or Riem primary schools. You accompany children with their homework, practise with them what they find difficult and support teachers with projects. Especially children with a migration background are supported. The commitment is great fun for everyone involved! If you have 1-2 hours a week, enjoy working with children, want to support children at school and want to be part of a committed team, this is the right place for you.
in the area of Balu und Du (see separate search page):
Volunteers up to 30 years of age meet once a week for a year with a primary school child in their free time and support them. Balu und Du Munich - Become a mentor for primary school children (Balu und Du) | vostel.de

Your Tasks
The tasks vary depending on which project you are interested in. The tasks can be very different. Our support ranges from accompanying primary school children to coaching families and children to sponsoring the Balu und Du project.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You should enjoy working with people and not give up immediately if others are different, but see diversity as an enrichment. Openness, an interest in others and a good mood are therefore important :) The ability to work in a team wouldn't be a bad thing either, even though you work alone in some areas.
