About the volunteering opportunity

For Mr. L., a 74-year-old resident of our shared apartment "WG Boxhagener Kiez", we are looking for a male volunteer to provide one-to-one care. Mr. L. has not yet accepted his dementia and is often confused as to why he no longer lives at home. Although he still goes out on his own and is active, he feels out of place and not well integrated in the shared flat. Despite his sarcastic nature, he is easy to talk to. He likes to watch sports broadcasts as he used to be a boxer.

Your commitment can help Mr. L. to feel more comfortable in the shared flat by giving him company and attention and accompanying him to various events.

Thank you in advance for your valuable support!

Your Tasks

  • Regular visits and individual support for Mr. L. in the Boxhagener Kiez shared flat
  • Keeping Mr. L company and having conversations that distract him and make him happy
  • Accompanying Mr. L to events and activities outside the shared flat that might interest him
  • Willingness to deal with Mr. L.'s nature and support him

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.

  • Empathy and sensitivity in dealing with older people, especially those with dementia
  • Willingness to respond to Mr. L.'s needs and interests and to support him
  • Interest in sports broadcasts
  • Reliability and a willingness to get involved on a regular basis
