About the volunteering opportunity
Our mission is to make the everyday lives of seriously ill children, adolescents and young adults more varied and cheerful by bringing them together with other young people.
Our Buddies create moments of happiness for young patients at the hospital through personal visits.
Your Tasks
We are currently looking for new buddies for our meetings at the Kinder-UKE in Hamburg.
every week on Thursdays from 17:50, buddy teams visit children and young people aged 5-18 for around an hour. Most of the time is spent in group situations , but there are also occasional visits to the rooms .
What's needed
To become a Buddy at Kinder-UKE, you should fulfill the following basic requirements:
- You are between 18 and 30 years old
- You plan to take part in the ward visits for at least two years
- You take part in at least two ward visits per month (Thursdays 17:50-19:00)
- You will take part in the site team meetings three times a year and in one further training course per year (both on weekday evenings)
- You can reach the Kinder-UKE (Martinistraße 52, Hamburg) in less than 40 minutes

Important notice
If you would like to become a Buddy, the following training dates are mandatory. Before you apply, please check whether you can attend all the dates and make a note of them in your calendar now-
Kick-Off (online):
Thursday, 16.5. 18:00-19:30
Here you will get to know the other Buddies and get an insight into our association work and structures. -
Basic Workshop (presence in Hamburg):
Monday 27.5. and Tuesday 28.5. - 6-8 p.m.
➝ Here you will receive psychological input on a professional attitude and communication, as well as on the topic of role understanding and self-care. -
Induction at Kinder-UKE (presence in Hamburg):
Thursday, 6.6. 6-7 pm
➝ Here you will receive an introduction from the ward staff and get to know the premises and procedures. Afterwards, we will celebrate the completion of your training with a get-together.
