About the volunteering opportunity

Language café

Would you like to exchange ideas with people from different cultures and help them improve their German language skills? Many of our residents attend German courses and would like to use what they have learned in informal conversations. We would therefore like to start a language café in our accommodation in Rahnsdorf, where a relaxed exchange can take place over coffee and treats. We are looking for volunteers for this! Contact us by email, phone or here on vostel.de if you feel you would like to help.

This is what we offer you:

  • The experience of making a concrete contribution to the integration of refugees through your commitment
  • Getting to know new people and cultures
  • Support for your commitment from a permanent contact person
  • Friendly, open-minded, patient and reliable demeanor
  • Participation in free further training courses
  • Certification of your acquired skills and experience in volunteering, e.g. Berlin Volunteer Passport
About the refugee accommodation:

In September 2015, the first residents moved into our shared accommodation for refugees in the easternmost district of Berlin. Almost 150 men, women and children from over 15 countries of origin now live in Rahnsdorf (Treptow-Köpenick) not far from Lake Dämeritz.

The 10-people team is primarily dedicated to the social needs of the residents. Access to schools, visits to the doctor, visits to the authorities and arranging contacts with clubs and institutions are all part of the day-to-day tasks. It is particularly important to us to support our residents, which we can do with the help of volunteers. The focus here is on language lessons, care and individual support for children and enjoyable leisure activities. Organizing apprenticeships and internships for adults also plays an important role.
