About the volunteering opportunity

Get out of the school routine - off to the BARMER Beach Days! Themed nature, sports and health, around 300 pupils in grades 5-9 are invited to the BARMER Beach Days in Schwäbisch Gmünd from June 17-19, 2024 . As part of sports and knowledge workshops, the children and young people will learn exciting things about the beach habitat and measures to protect the environment in a fun and active way.

In our two workshops we focus on the endangered sea turtles and their habitat, which is linked to ours. In the workshops, the students not only learn interesting facts about the way of life of these endangered reptiles, but also what to look out for when on vacation and doing sports on the beach so as not to endanger the animals and their nests buried in the sand.

We are still looking for helping hands to support and run the workshops.

Your Tasks

You will work with us to look after the children and young people and carry out hands-on activities.

In our workshops we provide interesting facts about the endangered sea turtles, the beach and sea habitat and how everyone can contribute to their protection. We use our sea turtle exhibition, around which we carry out hands-on activities such as games, quizzes and hands-on offers with the pupils. In a rotating system, the children and young people come to us in groups of a maximum of 10 to 12 students.

The BARMER Beach Days will take place from 17-19.06.2024 in Schwäbisch Gmünd from approx. 08:30 am-1:00 pm in the area of Oberer Marktplatz and Johannisplatz. Your support on these three days would be fantastic. But even if you can "only" be there on individual days, that would be a great help.

Would you like to support us with the supervision and implementation of our hands-on activities at the large city beach in Schwäbisch Gmünd? Then simply get in touch with us. We look forward to it!

Where?

Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V.

The Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V. has been committed to the conservation of endangered animal and plant species and their habitats for 30 years. The AGA is internationally active to promote the protection and conservation of nature, to increase environmental awareness and to prevent the destruction of the basis of life of humans, animals and plants.

In order to be able to implement its projects sustainably, the AGA works together with competent local partner organisations worldwide. The AGA's projects include, for example, the protection of sea turtles threatened with extinction, the rearing of elephant and cheetah orphans or the protection of brown bears in Romania and foxes in Germany. In order to develop effective and scientifically based protection measures, the AGA also carries out basic research. For example, research is being conducted into the distribution areas of koalas and penguins in order to better protect them there. With constructive conservation concepts the AGA contributes to the solution of existing human-wildlife conflicts, for example by using guard dogs to protect the cheetahs. By designating protected areas and tree planting campaigns, the AGA also works to preserve the habitat of endangered species.

In order to raise awareness of endangered species and their habitats, the AGA produces extensive exhibitions with appropriate teaching materials, which can be borrowed free of charge. More information can be found at www.aga-artenschutz.de/umweltbildung.html
