DBSV supports and consults people that are threatened or affected by a loss of their vision.
It's our aim to keep their social and professional position and to fight for better general conditions so they can design their lifes self-independently and self-determined.
We consist of 20 regional associations with around 36.000 blind or visually impaired members.
As the topics blindness and visual impairment are interdisciplinary, we are engaged in many parts of social life: work and career, accessibility, culture and media, sports, education, safety and mobility, development aid.
We are looking for committed volunteers for an international youth meeting. Participants are between 18 and 30 years old and blind or visually impaired. They come from nine nations (Spain, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Iceland, Romania, Georgia, Germany) and learn the most important basics of project management and European funding during the nine-day workshop. We need support for example with excursions and with the meals at the buffet.
Your tasks include assisting with meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner): telling blind and visually impaired participants what the buffet consists of and helping them to serve the food on the plate, as well as transporting the plates to their seats.
Another task is to accompany the group (together with other group leaders) on excursions: Make sure that nobody is left behind, keep an eye on the road traffic, show the way to the bus and train. On the day of arrival and departure we also need helpers to accompany the participants to Schoenefeld and Tegel airports.
You should have a social skills and not be afraid to approach people with sensory disabilities. Besides, you should be responsible and reliable. The workshop will be in English, so you should speak good English.
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
It is ok to only help once.
Am I covered by accident and/or casualty insurance during the project?
