About the volunteering opportunity

We need your support in caring for the 12 senior horses of the association Seniorpferde aktiv mit Kindern e.V. The animals, currently between 21 and almost 37 years old, have made many people happy for many years and have helped many a child back into life as therapy horses. They are now in well-deserved retirement and need us. The animals need to be cared for, fed and groomed several times a day. And they enjoy light training sessions on our agility trail. And of course, the stables and shelters have to be mucked out and paddocks mucked out. Would you like to help?

No experience with horses? No problem! If you love animals, you'll learn everything by doing. :)

We look forward to your help, be it regularly or occasionally. The taster day is also suitable as a mini social day if, for example, you would like to spend a day together with one or two colleagues and our volunteers and possibly employees from other companies in the fresh air in beautiful surroundings and with lovely ponies.

Sign up for a taster day with us and get to know the farm and the team. We look forward to meeting you!

Your Tasks

The horses need food in the morning, at midday and in the evening, some even five times a day. Your help is currently urgently needed, especially in the mornings and afternoons, but we are also happy to receive additional support in the afternoons and evenings. The volunteers who help regularly start at around 8:00 a.m. with the morning feeding round. From 9.30 a.m. we can welcome you to our joint taster day.

Here are some of the tasks you can help us with:
Mornings:
  • Feeding and preparing feed
  • Distribute hay
  • Taking three horses to the paddocks
Midday:
  • Feed and prepare feed
  • Distribute hay
  • Let the horses out to pasture
Evening:
  • Feed and prepare feed
  • Distribute hay
  • Bring three horses into the stable
Stable and field care:
  • Mucking and bedding the stalls
  • Mucking out paddocks
  • Small repairs and maintenance of the grounds
Horse care
The daily care of the horses is important to all of us. This includes
  • Grooming and hoof care
  • Ground work on our horse course (agility trail)
  • Joint walks in the neighboring forest (morning/evening)
  • Training on our agility trail

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
As the care of the 12 horses (the entire farm operation) is organized exclusively on a voluntary basis, reliability is an important prerequisite. Everyone is dependent on the help of others. And the horses need us all!

What to bring

  • clothing suitable for the weather that can get dirty
  • sturdy shoes that can get dirty (rubber boots if possible, depending on the weather)
  • depending on the weather / season, sun and insect protection
  • your own work gloves if possible
  • Picnic lunch (farm work makes hungry!)
  • Ability to work in a team, love of animals, good mood and anticipation of a day in beautiful nature and with lovely ponies

Seniorpferde aktiv mit Kindern e.V.

Association for the sustainable care of former riding school horses

We enable former therapy and riding school horses that can no longer "earn" their own living due to their age to enjoy their well-earned retirement in their familiar herd and environment - purely on a voluntary basis and financed by sponsorships and donations.

For many years, the animals have made many people happy and they can and will continue to do so in their old age. In social projects, we enable disadvantaged groups of people - also on a purely voluntary basis - to enjoy a relaxing break with the animals.
