About the volunteering opportunity

Would you like to do meaningful voluntary work to improve the educational opportunities of primary school children? Preferably digitally and for a manageable period of time? Then our "Fit for Five" project is ideal for you.

Children need people who listen to them, give them ideas, encourage them and enjoy supporting them - even outside the family. The earlier the support starts, the more effective it is. Our 1:1 mentoring projects bring children with difficult starting conditions together with volunteer mentors.

Our goal: more equal opportunities and education for children in Germany.

Your Tasks

The leap from elementary school to secondary school is a major challenge, especially for children with difficult starting conditions: more learning material, a new environment, unfamiliar teachers.

The online mentoring project "Fit for Five" is designed to help children make the transition confidently and without worries. As a digital mentor, you will accompany a child online for one hour a week over a period of six months. The focus is on the German language and the key skill of reading, general transition topics and learning and working behavior. Appropriate teaching materials and ideas for online activities are provided.

The weekly learning units are designed to ensure that learning together is fun and that mentor and mentee grow into a really good team.
Participating mentors talk about the enriching experience of working with a child online, reading, playing games, structuring their school day and having fun preparing them for Year 5.

In return for your commitment, you will receive excellent support and training. We look forward to welcoming you to our great network and will be happy to issue you with a certificate of commitment.
