About the volunteering opportunity
The Kinderhaus Tom Sawyer Zehlendorf is looking for a skilled volunteer for the wood workshop at our daycare center. In our bilingual German-English daycare center, the children have the opportunity to be creative in a well-equipped wood workshop. We are looking for a volunteer who has experience in working with wood and would like to teach the children how to work with wood in a playful way.
Between 3 and 5 children will take part in the activity per hour. You can decide whether you would like to stay for one or two hours to accompany one or two groups. The activity can take place in the morning between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm or in the afternoon between 01:00 pm and 03:00 pm. The teachers will always be there to support you.
Your Tasks
- Carry out simple wood projects with the children, such as sawing, sanding and assembling pieces of wood.
- Create a safe and creative environment where the children can try out their craft skills.
- Guide and support the children in designing and realizing their own wood projects.

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
- Basic knowledge and experience in working with wood and tools.
- Enjoy creative and manual work with children.
- Patience and empathy in dealing with young craftspeople.
- Good knowledge of English or German (knowledge of German is not essential).
- Reliability and willingness to commit regularly.
Time required
- Regularly.
- Approx. 1 to 2 hours per week.
- On weekdays, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm or between 01:00 pm and 03:00 pm.
Important notice
Your manual skills and enjoyment of working with wood will help the children to express their creativity and develop practical skills. We look forward to you and your commitment!
