#BIKEYGEES e.V.

#BIKEYGEES e.V. offers free cycling lessons for (refugee) women and girls (aged 16 and over).
In addition to practical cycling training, we give traffic lessons in various languages and teach the basics of maintaining and repairing your own bike.
We started in September 2015 as a small empowerment project and have been recognized as a non-profit association for educational and integration work since May 2016. Our training courses create immediately visible and sustainable changes in the lives of the participants.

So far, we have got around 1,980 women/girls on bikes for free and handed over around 650 bike sets as donations. (as of Sep. 2024)

Volunteering and donations!

Why are we dependent on donations? Bicycles, multilingual lessons, transport, camp rent and places - there are many costs to carry out the trainings. It is important for us to remain independent and to offer our participants a safe place where they can learn in peace and with cheerful helpers. Therefore, we are absolutely dependent on your donations. We thank you supporters from the bottom of our hearts!

Objectives

#BIKEYGEES e.V. offers free cycling lessons for women and girls with refugee background. In addition to the practical cycling training, we give multilingual traffic lessons and basics in repairing bikes.

Why?

Every woman in the world should be able to cycle.

For us, cycling means being on the move in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way, enjoying to exercise, helping to explore one's own surroundings, freedom and independence. Not every woman has the opportunity to learn to cycle. That is why we exist. Our trainings create immediately visible and lasting changes for the participants' lives.

How?

Our cycling lessons take place in a protected environment. The helpers support the women from the first turn of the crank and hold, push and explain as long as necessary. If there is still a lot of laughter, we have almost reached our goal! We try to equip women who have learned cycling and traffic rules with a bicycle set. For whom is our offer?

Our bike trainings take place regularly and are free of charge. All women/girls aged 16 and over are welcome, regardless of their origin, age, religion or status.

Who is behind it?

We started in Sept. 2015 as a small empowerment project. We conducted our 1st training with our own bicycles and friends on a supermarket parking lot. From the beginning the rush was huge.

In the meantime, we have grown into a non-profit association for educational and integration work and have been recognised as such since May 2016.

In 2018 we won the 1st place at the German Bicycle Award and the Berlin Respect Award.

The Hatun Sürücü Prize has awarded us for special commitment to promoting self-determined life for girls/young women in 2017, the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance for our exemplary work.
