About the volunteering opportunity
We are looking for volunteer mentors who can reliably sponsor a child of mentally ill parents on a long-term basis.
Since 2005, the sponsorship program run by AMSOC e.V. - Ambulante Sozialpädagogik Charlottenburg e.V. - has been providing volunteer sponsors throughout Berlin as reliable caregivers for children with at least one mentally ill parent. In Germany, around 3.8 million children and young people are affected by their parents' mental illness. Children of mentally ill parents can experience a wide range of stresses and strains. Their risk of developing behavioral problems or mental illnesses is increased. Affected families are therefore particularly dependent on help that is geared towards their individual needs. Sponsorship can help them to cope better with the special situation at home. Sponsors can be an important protective factor for the healthy development of children.

Your Tasks
First and foremost, our volunteers spend a carefree time with their sponsored children and give them an insight into their everyday lives. By taking on a sponsorship, the volunteers become additional confidants who reliably and permanently support the sponsored children. Our sponsorships are designed to be long-term and are supported by full-time staff until the child reaches the age of majority. In addition, our sponsors receive monthly supervision and volunteers are prepared for their responsible work with a five-module training course.
If you take on a sponsorship with us without an admission option.

When parents become mentally ill, this also affects their children. That's why we provide affected children with volunteer mentors. This gives them an additional caregiver they can rely on. This relieves the burden on the families and promotes the healthy development of the children, because a sponsorship can help them to cope better with the special situation at home.
