About the volunteering opportunity
Books are a wonderful way for blind and severely visually impaired children to explore the world. While sighted children can see a river, a boat, an excavator, a sheep or the sun in pictures, on television or in real life, blind or severely visually impaired children can only experience these things to a limited extent.
There are around 10,000 blind and visually impaired children of pre-school age in Germany. There are hardly any appropriate books for them.
That is why the DBSV develops and creates its own tactile and activity books. Reading these books is great fun for the children because the pictures can be changed: doors or windows can be opened, figures moved, houses built or cherries picked. And they also prepare blind and visually impaired children for reading in a very playful way, as the pictures are accompanied by texts in Braille and black print.

Your Tasks
The new children's book we are currently working on is the tactile version of the poem “Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland” by Theodor Fontane.
Mr. von Ribbeck's pear tree becomes three-dimensional in our tactile book so that the children can actually pick the pears and put them in the jacket pockets.
We need lots of mini pears for this! They are made from air-drying modelling clay and have a piece of wire in the middle so that they can be hung on the pear tree later. The pears have a size of approx. 1.5 cm and we need about 2,000 of them ;)
Do you like crafting? Then we look forward to your support!
Come along on October 27th!
