About the volunteering opportunity

Our association helps queer people from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus to find their way through the maze of German bureaucracy. We offer psychosocial, social law, asylum and residence law advice.

We are particularly reliant on the support of language mediators for advice on asylum and residence law.

Your tasks as a language mediator could also include accompanying our clients to authorities, apartment viewings and other everyday appointments, which can become real hurdles due to language barriers. Your cooperation helps to break down these barriers!

Since Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and the tightening of laws against the LGBTIQ* community in Russia, many queer refugees have come from Ukraine and Russia in particular. Now we also see the lives of queer people in Georgia and countries in Central Asia increasingly at risk. We would therefore be particularly pleased if people who speak languages from these regions would show an interest.

Your Tasks

Language mediation for our asylum and residence law advice; accompanying clients to official or other important appointments

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You should have an open-minded attitude towards LGBTIQ* people. You should also speak one of the following languages:
  • Ukrainian
  • Georgian
  • Russian
  • other Eastern European, Central Asian language or a language of the Caucasus
