About the volunteering opportunity
At SCHLAU Dortmund, young queer volunteers run workshops for young people in schools, sports clubs and other youth facilities. How can we prevent pupils from becoming victims of verbal and physical violence because of their sexual or gender identity? How can we raise awareness of other forms of discrimination such as racism, ableism, classism or sexism? How can the diversity of all people be accepted by everyone so that all pupils can learn and develop in a climate without fear of exclusion? How can we ensure that diversity is seen as an enrichment and not a threat? How can we support each other? These questions are the basis for the project.
Your Tasks
Getting involved with SCHLAU Dortmund means running workshops in schools or other educational institutions together with other queer volunteers.
We use pedagogical methods to introduce the topics of gender, sexual and romantic diversity in a low-threshold and unagitated way. We talk about life realities and biographies, gender roles, prejudices and experiences of discrimination.
A central element of every SCHLAU workshop is the biographical narrative of the team members. Through the dialog about the team members' own queer biographies, prejudices and stereotypes can be effectively broken down.
In addition to educational work around LGBTIANPQ+ topics, we are also concerned with empowerment for young people as well as broadening the view of different forms of discrimination and strengthening an intersectional and privilege-sensitive attitude.
You will of course be well prepared for your assignment in school classes so that you can use the methods confidently and feel comfortable answering questions about your own biography.
