About the volunteering opportunity

Become part of the volunteer disaster relief and medical service on land or at sea

Disaster relief:

In so-called "major emergencies", our team is deployed to provide first aid and care for those affected. The district standby team is alerted in the event of evacuations after bombs are found, floods or similar emergencies. The emergency services also provide support in the event of planned or unplanned special requirements of the rescue service.


Ambulance service:

We provide medical services at major events in and around Hamburg. For example the Marathon, Cyclassics or the Hafengeburtstag. These are provided on land, on water or in rough terrain by the quad relay.

We look forward to support! Here you will receive first-class qualifications, lots of practical experience and regular further training to be able to help professionally.

Your Tasks

In our team you will take care of:

  • the emergency care of patients
  • the transportation of injured and sick people
  • the construction and operation of emergency shelters
  • the evacuation and care of people
  • providing food in emergency situations or distributing water supplies
  • the reunification of families
  • technical requirements such as power supply, lighting, cooking facilities, radio stations and vehicles

The German Red Cross in Hamburg-Harburg is a multifaceted charity with over 60 facilities, including 17 daycare centers, a hospice, the Harburg-Huus for the homeless and several refugee shelters. Around 450 volunteers are involved in areas such as disaster prevention, childcare, helping the homeless and integration projects.
