About the volunteering opportunity

What is this commitment about?

Sorting waste is an important step for recycling to work at all. Materials can only be recycled and resources conserved if waste is sorted correctly.

There are a few things to bear in mind: Used pizza boxes, for example, do not belong in the waste paper because of the grease and food residue, but in the residual waste. The situation is similar with glass: clean jam jars can go in the waste glass, but drinking glasses or porcelain cannot, as they would interfere with recycling.

Many types of packaging can now also be easily broken down into their individual parts, for example the yogurt pot with an aluminum lid and a paper sleeve. Increasingly, you will find instructions on how to dispose of the packaging correctly directly on the packaging. The consumer advice center provides a helpful overview of what exactly belongs in which garbage can.

What are 5-minute commitments?

With our 5-minute commitments, we want to inspire you to easily integrate commitment into your everyday life. They are independent of charitable organizations and allow you to make an individual commitment to people and nature in your neighbourhood.

Your Tasks

When separating waste, make sure that you use the different garbage cans consistently and do not put waste in the wrong garbage can "on suspicion". Organic waste belongs in the organic waste garbage can, empty packaging in the yellow bag or recycling garbage can and used glass separated by color in the container. It is also important not to mix in any foreign substances - for example, not to throw batteries or electrical appliances in the household waste. If you are unsure, a quick look at the municipal disposal guidelines or the information provided by the consumer advice center will help.
