About the volunteering opportunity

ASB Berlin's disaster control team is made up of volunteers who help people in acute emergencies - for example during evacuations, major emergencies, extreme weather events or caring for refugees. The aim is to provide fast, reliable and humane assistance in crisis situations.

The project not only strengthens civil protection in Berlin, but also promotes community, solidarity and practical commitment in the city. All participants receive comprehensive training and are part of a strong team that helps in an emergency - professionally and with heart.

Your Tasks

Depending on their interests and aptitude, the volunteers take on tasks in various areas. These include, for example

  • Care: support and care for affected persons on site

Time required

Regularly

ASB Berlin's civil protection work is flexible and easy to combine with work, studies or other commitments.

  • Exercises and training usually take place in the evenings or at weekends. Participation is important in order to be prepared in the event of an emergency.

  • Deployments are irregular and often at short notice, for example during evacuations or storms. Whether and when you are available is decided on an individual basis - no one has to be ready for action at all times.

  • Project-related commitments are also possible, e.g. for large-scale exercises or public relations work.

The important thing is not how much time you have - but that you are committed. We will clarify everything else together in a personal meeting.

Important notice

People involved in civil protection should know that missions can take place irregularly, but sometimes at short notice - for example during evacuations, storms or other crisis situations. Flexibility and resilience are therefore important.

Even if ASB plans all operations professionally and no one is overwhelmed, it is helpful to be aware:
Civil protection sometimes means acting calmly, quickly and as a team in challenging situations.

In addition, the following applies:

  • Regular participation in exercises and training is necessary to remain operational.

  • All deployments are voluntary, but with insurance cover, equipment and training from ASB.

  • The teamwork is characterized by respect, reliability and mutual support.

Most importantly: Nobody has to be perfect - but commitment, team spirit and the will to help count.
