About the volunteering opportunity

SCHLAU Gladbeck is an project practicing queer education. Our LGBTIAQ+ team members offer workshops for teenagers and young adults, primarily in schools. Our main topics are sexual, romantic and gender diversity, but we see ourselves as a project that works against discrimination in general.

Our motto is: "Talk to us, not about us". In workshops, we use methods of anti-discrimination education and our LGBTIAQ+ biographies to talk to participants about democracy, human rights and discrimination.

Through our network SCHLAU NRW, we receive free access to qualification measures. We share quality standards and a youth protection concept with the other SCHLAU teams in NRW.

--- SIMPLE LANGUAGE ---

We are SCHLAU Gladbeck.
We talk to young people about LGBTIAQ+.
What is LSBTIAQ+?
You can read and listen here:
https://geschlechter-abc.de/l/

Everyone in our team is LGBTIAQ+.
We ask young people:
What do you know about LGBTIAQ+?
We tell young people:
How do we feel as LGBTIAQ+?
We show them:
We are good like this.
The way we are.
We don't have to change.

We also talk about discrimination.
That means:
Some people have fewer rights.
Or they are insulted. Or bullied.
Because they belong to a group.
For example, the LGBTIAQ+ group.

We talk to young people:
Why is that the case?
How can we change that?
We want equal rights.
We want to be accepted.
How do we do this together?

Do you want to join in?
Then get in touch with us!
