Magical physics: discovering scientific phenomena with children

Volunteer mentors visit our Berlin partner elementary school as part of the Magical Physics program - with lots of research fun. Whether sound waves, force, magnets, light, water or air: our magic suitcases and boxes contain interesting experiments to participate in, discover, explore and marvel at. A team of 5-6 volunteers work together with the teachers to regularly organize exciting, magical experimentation sessions so that the children can learn about science and technology in a new and playful way. While working with the instructions, they learn that reading and understanding is important for the success of the experiments.

For the Bürgerstiftung Berlin's "Magical Physics" project, we are looking for volunteers who enjoy scientific experiments and would like to pass on their enthusiasm for physics to children.

The physics mentors visit a school as a team (5-6 physics mentors) and experiment with the children. Magic Physics always takes place in the morning. A moderator explains the experiments and leads the lesson, while the 4-5 table mentors support the 3-5 children at the table in carrying out the experiments independently.

There are currently 25 themed kits with well over 120 experiments. Each team has a team leader who is responsible for coordinating the lesson and liaising with the school. The following are required for this commitment: patience, a desire to work with children, the ability to work in a team, previous scientific and technical training are positive, but not a prerequisite.
