About the volunteering opportunity

Important note: Unfortunately, there are currently difficulties with sending e-mails from Berliner Stadtmission addresses to Google and Hotmail accounts. Please check your Gmail spam folders for mails from us. Unfortunately, Hotmail does not seem to be working at the moment. If possible, please use alternative e-mail addresses or call us on 030-69033-528 (preferably Monday-Friday between 10:00 am and 04:00 pm).

In the winter months from November to April, the Berlin City Mission opens a total of 4 emergency overnight shelters.
Many people who would otherwise have to spend the night outside in the cold are given shelter here, food, clothing, medical care, advice and emotional support.

Your Tasks

Activity: You will work in the evening. The range of tasks is varied. For example: You will help with serving and preparing meals and in the scullery.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
Prerequisite: You must be of legal age. You must speak German or English for this voluntary position. If you have any pre-existing health conditions, we recommend that you consult your doctor and the head of the facility to protect yourself; unfortunately, it is not possible to volunteer if you are pregnant.

What we are looking for: You are open to the life situations of homeless people. You keep an overview and enjoy working in a team. You are reliable and like to take on responsibility. The most important thing: You have an open ear for our guests and treat them in an approachable, tolerant, fair and de-escalating manner. You treat every guest with friendliness, appreciation and at eye level.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 4 hours per week.
Time commitment: We are looking for a regular commitment. However, shorter assignments are also possible. We always start with a trial day to see if it suits both sides.

Important notice

Expected attitude: You are convinced that every person is given inalienable dignity and are prepared to act in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the Berlin City Mission.
