About the volunteering opportunity
ZULA is a Berlin-based non-profit organization that empowers children’s authors and illustrators, especially BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) creators to self-publish their books. Through our work, we combine storytelling, education, and community to empower the next generation.
We are looking for a Community Manager (working student) to support the growth and engagement of our community across online and offline spaces.
Your Tasks
Your Role
You will play a key role in nurturing and growing our community by creating meaningful connections between creators, volunteers, families, and partners.
What You Will Do
- Engage with our community across platforms (WhatsApp, Slack, etc.)
- Respond to messages, comments, and inquiries in a warm and timely way
- Support the onboarding of new community members (creators, volunteers, partners)
- Help activate the community around events, reading sessions, and initiatives
- Collect feedback from the community and share insights with the team
- Support the coordination of volunteers and contributors
- Help bridge online engagement with offline participation (events, workshops, readings)
What's needed
Volunteers must be native German speakers.

- Strong communication skills and a natural ability to connect with people
- Interest in community building, education, and social impact
- Proactive, organized, and reliable
- Native-level German and fluent English
- Experience with social media and messaging platforms is a plus
- A strong sense of empathy and cultural awareness
