About the volunteering opportunity
We are looking for committed volunteers who are willing to accompany residents from an initial reception center for refugees to appointments.
The appointments cannot be planned regularly or far in advance, but usually only a few days in advance and therefore have to be coordinated relatively spontaneously.
For this project, we would like to add volunteers to our list who speak other languages in addition to German (in particular Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Georgian or Persian, but please let us know if you speak other languages),

Your Tasks
Appear at irregular (pre-arranged) appointments at a refugee shelter in Tempelhof,
Meet residents at a meeting point (office),
and accompany them to an appointment (e.g. adult education center, bank, public authority, ...),
do translation work at the appointment,
and then accompany them back to their accommodation.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
Knowledge of German or English AND at least one other language relevant to the work (e.g. Ukrainian, Russian, Georgian, Farsi, Arabic, etc.).

AWO/IB Unterkunft Flughafen Tempelhof
The Tempelhof Airport accommodation was put into operation on December 23, 2022 and is operated jointly by AWO Berlin-Mitte and the Internationaler Bund Berlin-Brandenburg. The accommodation is located in hangars 1, 2 and 3 of the former Tempelhof Airport and in parking lot 3. It offers space for a maximum of 1600 people.
