About the volunteering opportunity

We are looking for people who can help with translation inside our accommodation or accompany women to appointments outside.

Our women’s group consists of incredibly strong women with complex life stories and remarkable resilience. Sadly, due to financial cuts and institutional racism, they have become a particularly vulnerable group.
They are seeking support and cooperation in order to regain greater independence.

The need is high – which is why we appreciate every form of support.

We are especially looking for speakers of the following languages:
French, Sussu, Maninké, Pulaar, Tigrinya, Farsi, Urdu, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Dari, Somali, Vietnamese, Arabic.

If you speak any of these languages, you can be a great help.
It’s absolutely fine if you don’t speak German – our team speaks Russian, Spanish, English, Arabic, and Bulgarian, among others.

You can support us regularly or only occasionally, for example on individual days or at specific events. Every bit of help matters!

Feel free to reach out – we look forward to hearing from you! 🌿✨

Your Tasks

it’s about translating for the social workers during the counselling sessions. It is also possible to accompany these women to different appointments. These can be appointments with a doctor or the bank, or more serious appointments such as at the Social Welfare Office or the Jobcenter. It depends on you and your availability. We are happy for any help.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
Language skills are required. But also, sensitivity to topics like racism and sexism is important. In order to translate or accompany, you should know some basics about the social system in Berlin and a little about asylum law. We, the social workers, will teach you everything you need.

Time required

Important notice

You need to be open to reflecting on your own position and to being critical.
