About the volunteering opportunity

We need your support in caring for the 12 senior horses of the association Seniorpferde aktiv mit Kindern e.V. The animals, currently between 23 and almost 38 years old, have made many people happy for many years and helped many a child back into life as therapy horses. They are now in well-deserved retirement and need us. The animals need to be cared for, fed and groomed several times a day. And they enjoy light training sessions on our agility trail (lead course). And, of course, the shelters and paddocks also need to be mucked out. Would you like to help?

It would be nice if you already have experience in caring for horses that goes beyond just riding. Most important, however, are reliability, the ability to work in a team and empathy.

We look forward to your help, either regularly or occasionally. The taster day is also suitable as a mini social day if, for example, you would like to spend a day together with one or two colleagues and our volunteers and possibly employees from other companies in the fresh air with lovely ponies.

Your Tasks

The horses need soaked hay cobs and senior feed in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening, some even five times a day, as they only have a few teeth left and can no longer chew hay and grass properly and therefore cannot extract the nutrients from it. Your help is currently urgently needed, especially in the mornings and evenings, but we would also welcome additional support in the afternoons and evenings.

The volunteers who help regularly start at around 8:00 a.m. with the morning feeding session. From 10 a.m. we can welcome you to our joint taster day.

Here are some of the tasks you can help us with:

Mornings:
  • Prepare feed, separate and feed horses
  • Fill up with water
  • Muck out shelters and paddocks
  • [Turn horses out to pasture]
Midday:
  • Prepare feed, separate and feed horses
  • Mucking out shelters and paddocks
  • Mucking out shelters and paddocks
Evening:
  • Prepare feed, separate and feed horses
  • Distribute hay
  • Fill up with water
  • Mucking out shelters and paddocks
  • Bringing horses into shelters, separating
Horse care
The daily care of the horses is important to all of us. This includes
  • Grooming and hoof care
  • Minor medical and grooming care
  • Ground work on our lead course (agility trail). [The horses are not yet back in regular training after the move to the new yard, so that assignments with external (new) people are currently only possible to a limited extent]

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
As the care of the 12 senior horses (the entire farm operation of the association) is organized exclusively on a voluntary basis, reliability is an important prerequisite. Everyone is dependent on the help of others. And the horses need us all!

Time required

Regularly
Discussed individually
Please ask us about your individual preferred date for a taster day / mini social day and get to know the ponies and our team of volunteers. In general, we can usually best organize these on Mondays. We look forward to seeing you!

Association for the sustainable care of former riding school horses

We enable former therapy and riding school horses that can no longer "earn" their own living due to their age to enjoy their well-earned retirement in their familiar herd and environment - purely on a voluntary basis and financed by sponsorships and donations.

For many years, the animals have made many people happy and they can and will continue to do so in their old age. In social projects, we enable disadvantaged groups of people - also on a purely voluntary basis - to enjoy a relaxing break with the animals.
