About the volunteering opportunity

The training mentoring project "Mentoring für Macher:innen - erfolgreich durch die Ausbildung" supports young people in vocational training with 1:1 mentoring.
In the project, experienced mentors accompany trainees from various sectors and provide them with advice and support. Through this individual support, the mentoring project supports personal and professional development - with noticeably positive effects. Mentoring helps to open up new perspectives, reflect on one's own point of view, expand knowledge about communication, learning strategies and conflict resolution and recognize professional development opportunities. Mentors help trainees to successfully complete their first in-company training.
The mentoring project is part of the state mentoring program and is implemented by the Unionhilfswerk-Gesellschaft BUS gemeinnützige GmbH Startseite - BUS Projekte . Further information on the commitment of the Unionhilfswerk can be found at: Commitment - Unionhilfswerk.

Your Tasks

Experienced mentors encourage young people in initial vocational training on their path through life. The open exchange of professional and life experience is paramount: the mentorship lives and benefits from personal stories and perspectives. Over time, a trusting relationship develops that allows for constructive feedback and creates openness and understanding - on both sides.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Our mentors come from many different professional backgrounds and are between 25 and 67 years old. They volunteer in our project for about one year and support the young people in their personal and professional development in addition to their professional activities.

Time required

Project-based
once a week for 1.5 to 2 hours over 12 months.
The meetings with the mentees take place in the project offices in Kreuzberg (U-Schlesisches Tor) or at the Hürdenspringern in Neukölln (U-Karl-Marx-Str.) or are arranged in libraries, cafés, etc.

Important notice

The mentors are prepared for 1:1 mentoring in at least 4 modules in three-hour introductory training sessions (6 p.m. - 9 p.m.).
