About the volunteering opportunity
Are you over 14, from the districts of Mitte, Lichtenberg and Treptow-Köpenick and would like to volunteer regularly for older people?
As a participation helper, you will independently run your own weekly participation activities for older people in elderly care facilities in Berlin! This could be a digital education program, a leisure activity or something creative, for example. With your commitment, you make an important contribution to strengthening participation and reducing loneliness among older people in Berlin and receive the "Teilhabe-Hilfe-Card" (Participation Assistance Card) in return.
What is it about?
The "Teilhabe-Hilfe-Card" is the ID card for young volunteers in the Berlin care for the elderly. In order to receive the "Teilhabe-Hilfe-Card", young people aged 14 and over complete a 42-hour training course. This enables them to volunteer in elderly care facilities. The young people then regularly lead their own activities in the areas of digital, cultural or social participation. Over a period of twelve months, they are supported by educational specialists. The program concludes with the ceremonial presentation of the "Teilhabe-Hilfe-Card".
Why take part?
With the "Teilhabe-Hilfe-Card", the young people can now independently carry out participation offers for senior citizens in the social facilities of the districts of Mitte, Lichtenberg and Treptow-Köpenick. The project runs through two training cycles during the project period. It enables a total of 70 young people to volunteer in elderly care and creates 35 new services in Berlin, benefiting over 875 senior citizens.
The project not only creates opportunities for participation that benefit senior citizens, it also strengthens young volunteers, shows young people that they can use their skills to make a positive impact on society and thus helps to build democracy. It promotes dialog between the generations, ensures mutual understanding and thus strengthens social cohesion. And in addition to all of this, the project also counteracts the loneliness of senior citizens in Berlin.
