About the volunteering opportunity

The Helping Hands Academy e.V. implements sustainable development projects in The Gambia with the aim of strengthening the resilience of communities. From the professionalization of the hygiene infrastructure at St. Francis School (WASH project) to the construction of wells and the reduction of newborn mortality through "Sanyang Safe Birth " - we create dignified structures on site.

As we are constantly growing and our projects are becoming increasingly complex, we are looking for experienced support for our association finances to ensure our professionalism in the back office as well.

Your mission: You will support our treasurer with structured bookkeeping and ensure that our financial processes remain legally compliant and transparent. As we run projects in different areas (health, education, inclusion) in parallel, clean accounting is the foundation of our credibility towards donors and financial authorities.

Your Tasks

  • Account assignment & bookkeeping: You support the correct posting of business transactions in WISO My Association.

  • Tax reporting: You prepare reports and use our existing Elster access for communication with the tax office.

  • Structuring: You will help to clearly separate the four spheres of association law and prepare where-used lists for our projects (e.g. St. Francis or Sheikh Jasson Touray).

What we offer: We offer you a responsible job in a dynamic association that shows real results in The Gambia. As a token of our appreciation, we offer you an honorary membership in the Helping Hands Academy e.V. so that you can become part of our success story.

Why we need you: Your expertise in finance & law is key to putting our operational work in The Gambia on a solid administrative footing. Together, we will ensure that every euro is spent efficiently and legally compliant where the need is greatest.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Software expertise: You are confident in using WISO Mein Verein. Since we want to get started right away, we require in-depth knowledge of this program (or very similar association software).

Financial routine: You have experience in the correct account assignment of receipts and bank reconciliation within the four spheres of a non-profit association.

Elster knowledge: You are familiar with the Elster portal in order to prepare or carry out necessary reports to the tax office.

Association tax law: Ideally, you have a basic understanding of the legal framework of non-profit status and the tax treatment of project funds abroad.

Time required

Discussed individually
Current requirements: At the moment, the workload is manageable and significantly lower.

Project phases: A higher workload only arises selectively when new projects are "at the start" and the corresponding bookkeeping and where-used lists are required.

Flexibility: The position is therefore ideal for someone who is looking for a flexible role that is geared towards the dynamics of our project launches (e.g. new well drilling or construction phases in Sanyang).

Important notice

Personal characteristics:

  • Discretion & Reliability: Handling financial data and Elster access requires absolute integrity and conscientiousness.

  • Project-based working style: You have no problem with the workload fluctuating. At the moment it's rather quiet; you mainly become active when new projects (such as well drilling or construction phases) are "at the start" and the booking density increases.

  • Identification: You support our motto "Together for a better future" and want to help ensure that aid reaches The Gambia (e.g. Sanyang Safe Birth or the WASH project) in a legally compliant manner through clean administration.

Location

This project is location independent.
