About the volunteering opportunity
The non-profit organization ASTUR has been involved in intercultural exchange and educational programs since 1986. As one of the largest host family networks in Germany, we support international young people during their stay in Germany - reliably, professionally and personally.
For our programs in Mönchengladbach we are looking for committed host families for
- Student exchange programs (school visits in Germany)
- Language programs
- Short-term programs (from a few days)
Depending on the program, the length of stay ranges from a few days to an entire school year. The young people come from different countries and attend a school or take part in an organized programme during their stay. As a recognized non-profit organization, we guarantee the following for our host families
- Careful selection and preparation of participants
- Individual matching between host family and student
- Personal contact persons
- 24/7 emergency contact
- Organization of the school place (for school programs)
- Insurance cover
- An appropriate expense allowance
Host families make an important contribution to international understanding and enable young people to gain valuable educational and life experience in Germany.
Your Tasks
As a host family, you play a central role in intercultural exchange. Your tasks include
- Provision of your own furnished room
- Full board
- Integration of the guest into everyday family life
- Everyday orientation and support on site
- Regular exchange with ASTUR if required
Important to us:
- Openness towards other cultures
- Willingness to speak German in everyday life (knowledge of German is required)
- Compliance with our quality and care standards
- Participation in a selection interview and a preparatory house tour
Host families can be couples, families with or without children or single people. The decisive factors are reliability, a sense of responsibility and an interest in intercultural exchange. As a host family you will gain

- The experience of accompanying a young person in a formative phase of their life
We provide you with professional support throughout the entire period and are always on hand to help you.
What's needed
Volunteers must be native German speakers.
A friendly home, hospitality and German as the main language in the household.

The commitment as a host family is flexible because ASTUR offers very different programs for students from all over the world. A host family can be involved for anything from a few days to an entire school year.
Important notice
ASTUR generally compensates the host families for their expenses for all projects
