About the volunteering opportunity

Our afternoon groups give older people - some of whom have dementia - structure, companionship and a zest for life.
Five afternoons a week (Monday to Friday), our guests meet in a lovingly furnished apartment in Heilbronn-Sontheim to spend a valuable, warm-hearted afternoon together.

They laugh, sing, do handicrafts, drink coffee and eat cake together. For many participants, this afternoon is a real highlight of the week - a meeting place where they feel safe, seen and welcome.

At the same time, this offer is also a great relief for relatives. Families of people with dementia in particular do an enormous amount every day. The afternoon groups give them three to four hours of breathing space - time to run errands, recharge their batteries or simply find themselves again.

To make these valuable afternoons possible, we are looking for committed people with time, attention and heart. With your commitment, you will give older people some enjoyable hours - and their relatives some tangible relief.

Just one afternoon a week can make a big difference.

Your Tasks

As a volunteerdriverand companion, you are a central part of this afternoon:

  • You pick up senior citizens in the Heilbronn area from their homes and take them safely to the afternoon group in Heilbronn-Sontheim
  • During the approximately three-hour stay, you will be with the group, support the care if necessary and be approachable
  • You accompany the guests during activities such as arts and crafts, singing, drinking coffee or chatting
  • Afterwards, you will bring the participants home safe and sound
You always work in a team and are well supervised - it's not about caring, but about being there, accompanying and participating.
Reliability, patience and enjoyment of working with older people are more important than previous experience.

A fixed weekday is sufficient - every afternoon counts.

Occasionally, accompanied outings to the park or other locations take place by arrangement.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.

Time required

On weekdays, during the day
One afternoon a week (fixed day) - 1-6 p.m. to be determined together

Important notice

Reliability is particularly important for this commitment. Our senior citizens often look forward to "their" afternoon all week and to the familiar faces that accompany them. This is why it is crucial that agreed days of commitment are reliably adhered to.

Unfortunately, spontaneous cancellations are not possible - except in the event of illness or genuine emergencies - as no replacement can be organized at short notice and this would be very disappointing for the participants.

Those who decide on a fixed day not only give time, but also security, trust and continuity - values that are of great importance for older people and especially for people with dementia.
