About the volunteering opportunity
Our nationwide mentoring program supports primary school children outside of school. Young, committed people volunteer to take on an individual mentorship for a child for at least one year. Through personal attention and active leisure activities, you help them to develop in our society and learn how to successfully master challenges in everyday life. The children are of primary school age and grow up in socially or economically challenging circumstances.
Your Tasks
We are looking for young people aged 17 and over to take on an individual sponsorship for a primary school child for at least one year. The child will be supported in extracurricular activities. You are free to choose how you spend your free time and what you do together.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
- Age (at least) 17 to 30 years
- extended certificate of good conduct required
- in addition to German, language skills in Arabic, Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian, English, French are also welcome
- Empathy, patience and a positive attitude towards children of primary school age

Discussed individually
On weekdays, during the day
- once a week for 2 to 3 hours for at least one year
- additional participation in accompanying seminar twice a month

The Office for Civic Commitment of the AWO Cologne is a consulting service. People who are willing to volunteer will receive advice and will be placed in organisations that work with volunteers. Further priority will be given to LESEMENTOR Cologne, young volunteers, further education and voluntary refugee work.
