About the volunteering opportunity
Homeless day center: Our guests need guidance and support when dealing with authorities, offices, banks and similar institutions in order to raise their concerns and issues or to make progress. Sometimes it is just a matter of finding their way around by bus and train in order to reach places easily and safely and to attend an appointment reliably.
Your Tasks
Through your commitment, you enable people to feel safe and empowered when dealing with bureaucratic processes. Your presence provides reassurance in conversations and when people have questions about processes and documents. This enables successful participation, especially in the "business of everyday life", which is not commonplace for our guests.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
- Empathy and sensitivity: Your empathetic approach to homeless guests is essential to build trust and create a supportive atmosphere.
- Communication skills: You should be able to communicate clearly and respectfully, especially when supporting guests in their dealings with institutions.
- Resilience: As helping homeless people can be challenging at times, it is important that you feel resilient and can remain calm in emotionally demanding situations.
- Ability to work in a team: You will work closely and trustingly with the social team at the facility. There will be a short briefing before each assignment and you will give feedback to the team afterwards. In this way, goals can be achieved together and tasks implemented together. Your ability to work cooperatively is therefore crucial.

Appointments are often short notice and sporadic. Your flexibility in terms of time is therefore highly desirable.
Important notice
- Please be prepared that you may come into contact with people who may be mentally ill and/or use drugs during your work for the homeless;
- Our social team is always there for you. Do not hesitate to contact them with any concerns or uncertainties.
