About the volunteering opportunity

We code IT Academy (WCIA) is a voluntary career and placement consultancy for people who want to enter the German IT job market - mostly with a migration or refugee background, often highly qualified, but without a local network or door opener.

Since 2023, we have brought over 100 coachees together with experienced IT professionals from the industry in 1:1 meetings. Our ten active coaches provide tailored advice on application strategy, recognition, skills roadmaps and specific entry routes. The project has grown, established itself and is having an impact - we are now looking for a new project manager to take over the whole thing and develop it further with their own signature style.

This is a particularly exciting moment: AI is fundamentally changing the way people enter IT. This is precisely where the opportunity lies to actively level out inequality of opportunity and empower people with new tools. If you want to help shape this, you've come to the right place.

Time commitment: approx. 5-8 hours per week, can be arranged flexibly. You will be carefully trained by the current project manager.

Your Tasks

As a project manager, you are responsible for WCIA independently and with a high degree of creative freedom. In concrete terms, this means

  • Coordination with the sponsoring association We integrate e.V.
  • Managing the volunteer coaching team and other employees
  • Coordination with the social media team
  • Building and maintaining relationships with sponsors and partners
  • Further development of existing funding measures and formats
  • Acquisition of funds and third-party funding
  • Strategic development of the project - especially with regard to how WCIA can use new technologies (especially AI) to empower people
What is important to us: that you are intrinsically motivated, that people really learn and progress with us. That you don't just manage the project, but have a real desire to shape it and actively tackle inequality of opportunity.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
  • Genuine interest in the topics of integration, equal opportunities and the IT labor market
  • Experience in project management, team coordination or organizational development (preferably from a professional or voluntary context)
  • Strong communication skills in dealing with different stakeholders: Volunteers, supporting organization, sponsors, coachees
  • Structured and independent way of working
  • Ideally initial contact with fundraising, third-party funding acquisition or the funding landscape - not a must, but a willingness to learn is important
  • Understanding of the IT industry or willingness to familiarize yourself with it
  • Openness towards the use of AI as a tool to further develop the project
  • Very good knowledge of German, good knowledge of English is an advantage
More important than any point on this list: You are passionate about people really learning and progressing.

Time required

On weekdays, during the day
Approx. 5-8 hours per week, freely divisible. Appointments with coaches, sponsoring association and partners can be arranged flexibly - many things take place online, some on site in Nuremberg.

We are looking for a commitment of at least 12 months so that relationships with sponsors and partners can develop. The induction by the current project manager will take place over several weeks with a joint transition phase, after which you will take over independently.

Important notice

This is not a traditional voluntary position with clearly defined tasks, but a genuine management role with responsibility and creative freedom. If you join us, you will be taking on an established project with an active community, ongoing consultations and existing support relationships.

Discretion is key: you will be working with personal data and the confidential life stories of our coachees. We expect you to be willing to sign a data protection agreement.

We particularly welcome applications from people who have had experience with migration, lateral entry or structural hurdles - this perspective enriches our work.
