About the volunteering opportunity

As a mentor with KinderHelden, you’ll support an elementary school student at the Brüder-Grimm-Schule in Ludwigshafen for at least one school year through a consistent one-on-one mentoring relationship. Many children benefit from having an additional support person who gives them time, builds their confidence, and opens up new perspectives for them. Together, you’ll read, learn, play, or explore your city—always guided by the child’s interests and needs. In this way, you’ll help build self-confidence, a love of learning, and equal opportunities—all without any prior teaching experience. You’ll receive comprehensive training for your volunteer role and professional support throughout the entire mentoring period.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You don’t need any prior educational experience to be a mentor. What’s most important is that you enjoy working with children, are reliable and empathetic, and are willing to mentor an elementary school student regularly for at least one school year. Before the mentoring program begins, you’ll participate in our orientation program and submit an extended criminal background check. Throughout the entire mentoring period, you’ll receive professional guidance and support.

The mentoring program begins with the new school year. As a volunteer, you should set aside about 2–3 hours per week and support your tandem for at least one school year. Meeting times can be arranged flexibly and on an individual basis. Before you start, you’ll take part in our free introductory program. Throughout the entire mentoring period, you’ll be supported by a dedicated contact person and can participate in networking events and professional development sessions.

Important notice
