About the volunteering opportunity
Januam gUG is committed to digital inclusion, empowerment, and social participation. Through our programs, we help people develop their language and digital skills, strengthen their personal abilities, and explore new social and professional opportunities.
To provide professional support to our team, we are seeking a volunteer with a background in media education. You will assist us in the development and professional design of educational programs and project concepts in the areas of media education, digital literacy, and social participation.
The focus is on professional exchange, conceptual collaboration, and contributing perspectives from media education. You’ll have the opportunity to bring your own experiences, ideas, and areas of expertise to the table.
This is a long-term collaboration. The specific tasks will be determined jointly and tailored to your interests, experience, and availability.
Your Tasks
Depending on your interests, experience, and availability, you can support us in the following areas:
- providing expert advice on the development of media education programs,
- Collaboration in defining goals, target audiences, and measures,
- Developing appropriate media education approaches and methods,
- Designing low-threshold workshops, learning formats, and digital offerings,
- Assessing media use and support needs among different target groups,
- Support in the creation and revision of project concepts and educational materials,
- Providing expert input in the preparation of grant applications,
- Contributing your own ideas and insights on media education,
- Assistance with the planning and preparation of future programs,
- Professional exchange with our team.
You are not expected to take on all of the tasks listed above. The specific duties and responsibilities will be determined jointly.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Ideally, you should have the following:
- a degree, vocational training, or practical experience in media education, pedagogy, educational sciences, media studies, or a related field,
- an interest in digital education, media literacy, and social participation,
- an enthusiasm for conceptual work and professional exchange,
- knowledge of how to use digital media responsibly, safely, and independently,
- the ability to take into account different learning needs and target groups when developing educational programs,
- Sensitivity to diverse life experiences and cultural backgrounds,
- an independent, reliable, and respectful work ethic,
- Good written and spoken German skills.
Students in the advanced stages of their studies and those just starting their careers are also warmly welcome.

The time commitment will be determined on an individual basis. We are planning a long-term and flexible collaboration that includes regular coordination and needs-based participation in media education concepts and educational programs.
Together, we’ll determine which tasks you’d like to take on and how much time you can commit to them.
Depending on the task, our collaboration can take place digitally, in a hybrid format, or on-site by arrangement.
Important notice
The volunteer position is intended to provide technical and conceptual support to our team. The specific tasks, responsibilities, and time commitments will be agreed upon jointly before the collaboration begins.
Should a media education or digital education project be approved and funded in the future, there may be an opportunity for paid work or a project-based position. This will depend on the funding, the specific job description, and the respective project conditions.

Our community comprises over 200 participants from more than ten countries. We promote self-efficacy, orientation and future prospects with language support, workshops and labor market preparation offers.
