About the volunteering opportunity
Helping Hands Academy e.V. is active in The Gambia in the areas of education, health, and sustainable development. Our projects range from school and WASH initiatives to medical care, educational programs, and long-term structural development.
To ensure this work is also visible online, we’re looking for a creative person who can translate our projects into modern digital content.
You’ll use existing information, images, videos, and project stories to develop your own digital formats—such as Reels, short videos, animations, AI-powered content, infographics, or other creative formats.
It’s important to note that we’re not just looking to “spruce up” existing material. We’re looking for someone who comes up with their own ideas, identifies stories, and sees new ways to present our work in a way that’s understandable, credible, and engaging.
You’ll work closely with our young, international team—especially with our Creative Director, our Head of Social Media, and our Digital & Data Support team.
A long-term collaboration is important to us. We’re not looking for someone to create a single video or run a short-term campaign, but rather someone who is eager to help shape Helping Hands Academy e.V.’s digital communication over the long term and help build their own creative space.
Our communication should portray people with dignity, highlight real-world work, and build trust—without resorting to artificial dramatization or pity-driven messaging. The use of AI and modern digital tools is expressly encouraged, as long as it remains clear what constitutes real project documentation and what is visualization.
Your Tasks
You’ll work with our team to develop digital content for Helping Hands Academy e.V. and help showcase our projects, stories, and developments.
Your potential responsibilities include:
- creating short videos and Reels
- creatively editing existing photo and video footage
- Developing AI-powered videos, animations, and visualizations
- Designing infographics and digital campaign materials
- Developing compelling stories from project information, statistics, and images
- Prepare content for social media and the website
- Experiment with new digital formats and contribute your own ideas
- Develop new content ideas together with our Creative Director, our Head of Social Media, and Digital & Data Support
It’s important to us that you don’t just go through the motions. We’re looking for someone who will get to know our work, discover interesting stories on their own, and say:
“We could do something with this.”
You’ll have plenty of creative freedom. However, our core philosophy remains clear: We portray people with respect and dignity, work with real stories, and avoid artificial dramatization or pity-driven messaging.
In short: Our projects provide the stories—you help us bring them to light.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
You don’t need to be an expert in every tool, nor do you need to have a perfect portfolio. What matters most to us are creativity, initiative, and a good sense of how to tell stories digitally.
Experience or knowledge in one or more of these areas is helpful:
- Video and reel production
- Video editing and post-production
- AI-powered content and video production
- Animation and visualization
- Graphic design and infographics
- Storytelling and Digital Communication
- Tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe, DaVinci Resolve, or similar applications
- Modern AI tools for images, video, speech, or animation
You should enjoy developing ideas on your own, trying new things, and at the same time be open to collaboration within the team.
Since you’ll be working with an international team, a good command of English is a plus.
We place particular importance on reliability, respectful communication, and a genuine interest in the work of Helping Hands Academy e.V.
Time required
Regularly
Discussed individually
We are specifically looking for a long-term partnership, not just support for a single video or a short-term campaign.
The time commitment is flexible and can be easily adapted to your studies, career, or other obligations. As a general guideline, we estimate about 2–4 hours per week, though there may be lighter and more intensive phases depending on the project.
The collaboration is remote and offers flexible scheduling. Coordination takes place digitally with our international team.
Important notice
Is there anything else that volunteers should definitely keep in mind?
Our projects involve real people and, in some cases, sensitive topics. That’s why it’s important to us that people are always portrayed in our communications respectfully and with dignity. We do not use pity-inducing messaging or artificial dramatization.
AI can and should be used creatively. However, it must remain clear what is real project documentation and what is an artificially created visualization.
We are also specifically looking for someone who doesn’t just want to complete individual tasks, but who is eager to become a long-term part of Helping Hands Academy e.V. and our young, international team.
We particularly value long-term and reliable commitment. That’s why there’s also the option of honorary membership in Helping Hands Academy e.V.
And there’s one more thing that’s important to us about this position:
We don’t just want to read about what you can do—we want to see it.
When you reach out to us, check out Helping Hands Academy e.V., our website, and our social media channels, and surprise us with your idea. Whether it’s a video, a Reel, an animation, AI content, or something completely different—we’re leaving that entirely up to you.
We want to see what you discover on your own and what you make of it.
Location
This project is location independent.
