About the volunteering opportunity
The Vokalhelden is a children’s and youth choir project for children and young people ages 6 to 18. In our 17 choirs, more than 450 children sing together every week under the direction of experienced choir directors. Johannes David Wolff is the artistic director of the Vokalhelden.
Our goal is to inspire as many children and teens as possible to sing together, regardless of their background, native language, disabilities, or financial circumstances. That’s why there are no auditions for the Vokalhelden—no musical knowledge or prior experience is required. What matters to us is a curiosity about singing, the joy of making music together with others in the children’s or youth choir, and a commitment to attending rehearsals regularly.
Participation in the Vokalhelden is free of charge. To make the choir program accessible to as many children as possible, the association relies on donations and supporting members.
The children sing a wide variety of songs, ranging from classical to pop, and through various performances and projects—including at the Berlin Philharmonie—they have the opportunity to sing loudly and confidently together on stages both large and small.
Your Tasks
Duties During Weekly Rehearsals
· Set up the rehearsal room and clean it up after rehearsal
· Register the children using a digital tool
· Serve as the point of contact for questions from children and/or parents
· Accepting registration forms and consent forms
· Serve as the liaison to the choir office
· Support the choir directors in creating a positive rehearsal atmosphere; for example, if children need a break, go outside with them.
In addition to regular rehearsals (every week, except during school breaks and on holidays), there are special weekend rehearsals and performances, both in the neighborhood and at central venues such as the Philharmonie.
Help us out at rehearsals, concerts, or school workshops and become part of a close-knit musical community.

The Vocal Heroes are a choir program for children and young people. Since it was founded in 2013 by the Berliner Philharmoniker, it has been inspiring young people to sing - no matter where they come from or what language they speak. Today, around 450 children and young people sing in twelve choirs at four locations in Berlin. The annual sing-along concerts for school classes at the Philharmonie Berlin are a highlight.
