About the volunteering opportunity
Get involved with our search and rescue dog unit as a drone pilot, dog handler, or search team assistant at the German Red Cross Leipzig-Stadt e.V.
Save lives as part of a team! Search for missing people in rugged terrain—either alongside your dog or from the air as a drone pilot.
Your Tasks
- Search operations by day and night in forests or rubble
- handling one’s own rescue dog, leading a search team, or conducting aerial reconnaissance using a drone
- Providing first aid
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
You can complete all specific training and continuing education programs as part of your volunteer work.
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

- high reliability, stamina, and the ability to work in all weather conditions
- a love for dogs and a strong team spirit
- As a drone pilot: experience with drones and an A1/A3 or A2 drone pilot’s license, or a willingness to obtain one
- physical fitness
- Mental resilience
- Personal transportation (car)

This commitment is relatively time-consuming: 1–2 scheduled training sessions per week, for a total of about 25–30 hours per month
