About the volunteering opportunity
We are a family education institution in Cologne and offer many services for parents and their children. The project "Guter Start mit Baby" is an additional offer.
Your Tasks
With the "Guter Start mit Baby" initiative, our facility offers families relief in the first period after the birth of a child with the help of a volunteer. You come to the house for a few weeks or months, usually for 2 to 3 hours a week, for example to
- go for a walk with the baby
- play with the sibling
- give the mother a little time out
- accompany the mother on errands or to doctor's appointments
The service is a modern organized neighbourhood help.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
- Age (at least) 18 years
- extended certificate of good conduct required
- Enjoyment and enthusiasm for family life
- Understanding of the possibly stressful everyday life that comes with a new phase of life with a baby
- Confidentiality, reliability, composure

The Office for Civic Commitment of the AWO Cologne is a consulting service. People who are willing to volunteer will receive advice and will be placed in organisations that work with volunteers. Further priority will be given to LESEMENTOR Cologne, young volunteers, further education and voluntary refugee work.
