About the volunteering opportunity

As a government services navigator, you’ll help people fill out important applications and navigate bureaucratic challenges. You can choose between two work locations and areas of focus:
1. At the Social Counseling Center for Individuals in Steglitz. Here, the focus is on applications related to the Jobcenter, basic income support, disability ID cards, housing assistance, housing eligibility certificates, and similar benefits . Counseling hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
2. At the Family Office in Zehlendorf. Here, you’ll assist people with family-related applications, such as for parental allowance, child allowance, child supplement, daycare vouchers, and more. Consultation hours are Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Your Tasks

Practical help that makes a difference! Are you interested in a meaningful volunteer role where you can provide concrete support to others? As an “Ämterlots*in,” you’ll help people seeking guidance fill out important applications (e.g., housing assistance, basic income support, child benefits, etc.). You won’t be on your own: You’ll receive thorough orientation and regular training. During your shifts—which you can schedule in advance to fit your schedule—there’s always an advisor nearby who can help you with any questions that come up.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
You should be eager to support people facing difficult life situations. Tolerance for different lifestyles is a basic requirement for working as an administrative guide. We also expect you to be reliable. You make a difference! Before you begin your volunteer work with us, you’ll need to provide an extended criminal background check and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Important notice

As an Ämterlots*in, you can look forward to a friendly community with regular discussion sessions and thorough training. You’ll be at the forefront of current events and learn what’s driving our society. And you can be sure that your help is making a difference. Unfortunately, we cannot pay you an expense allowance, but we’d be happy to issue a certificate of volunteer service.
