Collect used bicycles and help make mobility possible in Africa!

Many basements and garages are filled with bicycles that no one rides anymore. Velafrica gives them a second life: We collect them, have them repaired at social organizations such as Spectrum e.V. in Aachen, and send them to partner workshops in Tanzania, Malawi, Madagascar, and other countries. There, the bicycles make it easier for people to get to school, the market, and the hospital. By 2025, we will have sent 27,773 bicycles to Africa.

But without bicycles, nothing works here. Join us in pedaling and help us collect bicycles!

Simply put: Collect used bicycles and store them at your place.

Collect them from your friends, family, and acquaintances, or at work. Put up flyers, post on social media, ask around in your neighborhood, contact your local newspaper, or come up with your own idea. You decide how much time to invest. We’ll help you with materials and tips for collecting.

What you should know
- Once you’ve collected 10 or more bikes, we’ll pick them up from you within a radius of about 40 km around Aachen.
- We accept any bicycle, including metal children’s bikes and e-bikes.
- Not accepted: trailers, plastic children’s bikes, balance bikes, scooters, and mopeds.
- We’re happy to advise you and provide you with informational and promotional materials.

You don't need any prior experience. It helps to have some space to store the bikes in a dry place until they're picked up, and to be willing to talk to people in your community.

You decide for yourself how much time to invest. As a general guideline: about 2 hours per week.

Please contact us as soon as you have collected 10 or more bicycles, and we will schedule a pickup time. Individual bicycles can also be dropped off directly at one of our collection points: https://velafrica.ch/velafrica-deutschland/
