We want to support people with a migration background when they arrive in Germany and bring them together with locals. These locals support the immigrants with their experience and commitment in their daily life. In addition to the desire for support, the exchange of ideas is a priority. We aim for a learning from both sides. Ideally a friendship develops, but in any case connections are made which create networks and make it easier for immigrants to have a good start in Germany.
Start with a Friend provides exciting encounters and enriching experiences. To achieve this, we meet each participant personally and bring you into contact with each other according to your interests, professional background and demands. As different people are, as different are the tandem relationships. For some of them it is more about the local helping the immigrants with questions in everyday life, e.g. finding an apartment or getting a job. Others want to get to know nice people in Germany. Everybody should plan about two hours a week for their tandem, but the timing is flexible. Moreover, you can become part of a colourful and active community with many nice events.
It would be great if you had 2 hours a week for your activities as a tandem partner. What you actually do with your tandem partner, when and where you meet, is up to you, or is done in consultation with your tandem partner. Start with a Friend provides exciting encounters and enriching experiences. We meet each participant personally and bring you into contact with each other according to your interests, professional background and needs.
Start with a Friend connects immigrants and locals in tandems based on interests and needs. Ideally, a friendship develops out of this, but in any case, a social network is created that makes it easier for immigrants to have a good start in Germany. Start with a Friend accompanies and advises the tandems after the matching and organises events to bring the tandems into contact with each other. It is also important to us to create structures in which people can get involved, even if they are tied up in their work and family life. The time schedule is therefore flexible; further training courses are offered but are optional. So far, Start with a Friend is available in 21 cities nationwide.More about the organisation
