Corona has presented us all with great challenges - including our schools. With our project, reading aloud mentors can enrich the everyday school life of the children and help to close learning gaps during this time. Reading aloud helps the children to improve their reading and language skills, and discovering stories together gives them the opportunity to enjoy books.
In this project, volunteers support both high-performing and low-performing primary school children through special support and attention with weekly reading lessons. The volunteers go to the respective schools and support the reading skills and knowledge growth of the children through the reading aloud programme. Reading aloud mentors read with the children in dialogue in order to develop a common understanding of the text and to awaken and strengthen the children's enjoyment of books.
Leseohren e.V. is is a non-profit organisation with the aim of teaching children the joy of language and books. The association now provides training and support for over 550 volunteers who regularly read aloud in day-care centres and schools throughout Stuttgart.
