About the volunteering opportunity

Are you looking for a way to

… connect with young refugees (ages 18–27),
… to support and mentor them on their path to a career,
… and are available to do so as regularly as possible (1–2 hours per week for about 5 months),
… and would like to actively foster a “culture of welcome” locally and sustainably?

Then you’ve come to the right place!

Your Tasks

Your Role as a Mentor: Confidant and Coach

Showing young people new perspectives: Mentors form pairs with the participants in our JOBLINGE Compass program, where they support these young people in articulating their interests, better assessing their skills, and making the most of them.

Enriching for Both Sides

The young people benefit from their mentors’ professional and life experience.
They appreciate having someone who takes them and their aspirations seriously, offers practical advice, stands by them when they face challenges, and celebrates their successes with them. Mentors open up new perspectives—and in doing so, broaden their own horizons through encounters with young people from very different backgrounds and walks of life.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Getting Started with Mentoring

You’ll receive professional training to prepare you for your role and will be matched with a mentee following in-depth discussions. You should plan to spend 1–2 hours per week on mentoring over a period of about five months. The initial phase is typically the most time-intensive.
As a mentor, you’re not on your own: Our staff is here to support you and will hold regular check-ins with you and your mentee. Additionally, mentor get-togethers offer the opportunity to share experiences and network with other mentors.

Interested? Feel free to contact us directly to discuss the next start date and next steps.
