About the volunteering opportunity

Equal social opportunities and digital participation by teaching digital skills and career orientation - that is the goal of the digitalization initiative TechTeens for socially disadvantaged youth at Leipzig high schools. Since 2018, the social project has been implemented by dedicated volunteer and company mentors with a lot of heart and soul to develop exciting digital solutions together with 8th-10th grade students and to close the digital divide a bit.

The social participatory project is accompanied by professional training, coaching and a series of events and offers its mentors in their role as encouragers, motivators and inspirers a meaningful commitment with further education and networking opportunities.

More information and direct contact can be found here.

Your Tasks

In interdisciplinary, mixed mentoring teams, TechTeens offers practical lessons once a week - together with the students, experts from all professional fields (mentors) develop digital/technical solutions from the idea, personnel planning, conception, implementation, design, marketing and presentation.

For this purpose, the expertise of the mentors is bundled in order to inspire young people for a variety of professions. In addition to the professional orientation of young people in grades 8-10, TechTeens wants to teach IT/professional skills that help to reduce the digital divide for the aforementioned target group and pave their way into a digital professional world.

The mentors connect live to the classrooms from their workplace or home office thanks to digital boards. Depending on the pandemic situation, the mentors can also teach on site.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

As a TechTeens mentor, you combine the joy of working with young people, an interest in the working world of the future and motivate with your talent. With your personal and professional experience, you are an important role model for our teens at the schools and support them in recognizing and developing their strengths. Through your long-term, continuous and thus sustainable commitment, you help the students to grow as people.
