About the volunteering opportunity
We initiated "Big & Small" (for all generations) with two goals in mind: On the one hand, we want to strengthen the "school system" by supporting teachers and educators in their work with children. At the same time, this project would like to offer committed citizens the opportunity to volunteer to support the development of children. Experience has shown that this is a win-win situation.
As so-called "school mentors", committed citizens assist the teachers and educators in their tasks at school and in the open all-day schools (OGS). Of course, they do not replace them and do not take over any of their original tasks. "Groß & Klein" is an extended additional offer for primary schools in Bonn. The project is currently being carried out at seven primary schools in Bonn.
Your Tasks
The tasks depend on the individual needs of the participating schools, but also on the interests and hobbies of the volunteers.
The list of possible assignments and tasks for you as a school sponsor is diverse. These can be, among other things:
- Reading support for individual children or in a group
- Language support for individual children or in a group
- Support and help during lessons
- Support and help in the OGS
- Working groups in the OGS
- Accompaniment during excursions
- Tutoring for individual children or in groups
- Work in the school library
- Work in the refectory
What's needed
There are no specific competencies that are required of the school mentors. Each volunteer can bring in his or her individual competences in coordination with the responsible persons of the school.
The schools / OGS can suggest concrete tasks to the school mentors.
But they themselves can also provide ideas.
Time required
Important notice
"Extended certificate of good conduct": Since you are a volunteer school mentor at "Groß & Klein" (for all generations) and look after minors, the presentation of an "extended certificate of good conduct" is required by law. This certificate will be issued free of charge, as it is required in order to carry out a committed activity.
Basically, you should want to be active as a school sponsor on at least one day of the week - for one hour or more. Of course, you are free to plan your holidays and are not bound to the school holidays.
