About the volunteering opportunity

In general, we offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities:
  • Supporting our public relations work by researching important developments on direct democracy around the world and writing articles for our newsletter, website and content for our social media.
  • Preparing and assisting with webinars or democracy events in Cologne and Europe, including youth work.
  • Helping to set up our new online platform, the International Democracy Community.
  • Help with contacting and coordinating with activists worldwide. Active research and contacting activists.
  • Support with translations (mostly English, German and French) or updating and maintaining contact lists.
  • Researching funding opportunities and drafting funding applications.
  • Supporting our ongoing campaigns such as the World Citizens' Initiative through research, the creation of campaign texts and social media materials as well as logistical support in the run-up to actions.

Your Tasks

There are individual opportunities for you:
  • Help with the preparation and travel of our European Public Sphere project.
  • Logistical preparation and implementation of events.
  • Help with contacting and coordinating with activists worldwide. Active research and contacting activists.
  • Support with editorial tasks, support for activists who want to publish an article on our platform.
  • Support with translations (mostly English, German and French) or updating and maintaining contact lists.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
  • Age: (at least) 18 years
  • Interest in political issues
  • Social competence
  • for translation work: German, English and / or French

The time frame depends on the volunteer. We would like to have a longer commitment, but shorter project-related periods are also possible.

The Office for Civic Commitment of the AWO Cologne is a consulting service. People who are willing to volunteer will receive advice and will be placed in organisations that work with volunteers. Further priority will be given to LESEMENTOR Cologne, young volunteers, further education and voluntary refugee work.
