About the volunteering opportunity

Our vision: everyone should be able to afford to read!
Why do we do what we do? Because we love books and want as many people as possible to enjoy them. Because we believe in the principle of sharing and find sustainable reading more meaningful than buying new books again and again. Because reading opens up worlds and we want to give children the opportunity to get to know new worlds. Because we are committed to working together in a spirit of solidarity that offers everyone meaningful work prospects.
We finance ourselves solely through the sale of some of the books and media that we receive as donations.

Your Tasks

We are looking for committed, book-loving volunteers to read aloud at our reading events on Wednesday mornings or Thursday afternoons.

Our reading events are aimed in particular at children and young people from the neighborhood. Our aim is for everyone to have access to books and to read!

Anyone who can read aloud in foreign languages, such as Turkish, is also very welcome to get in touch!

Location

Berliner Büchertisch e.V.

Our vision: Reading should be affordable for everyone - independent from his or her age, salary, social status or origin. That’s why the Büchertisch as a non-profit association supports libraries in schools, kindergartens, prisons and many other institutions. We also work in different projects to help children to access books and reading materials.

Moreover we supply various stations for free books throughout Berlin. In creating jobs and apprenticeships for people from various social backgrounds – from former homeless people to young professionals – we try to give people new perspectives.
