About the volunteering opportunity

For many refugees, passing the B1 German exam does not mean they are confident speakers. You have to speak the language to master it.

Your Tasks

We are looking for you as an individual language helper for refugees and new immigrants. In all formats: live meetings, by phone or online.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
  • Age (at least) 18 years
  • extended certificate of good conduct required
  • ideally a background in linguistics or another university degree or enjoy explaining things and have an affinity for language (also possible without a university degree)
  • Empathy
  • Enjoy imparting knowledge

The Office for Civic Commitment of the AWO Cologne is a consulting service. People who are willing to volunteer will receive advice and will be placed in organisations that work with volunteers. Further priority will be given to LESEMENTOR Cologne, young volunteers, further education and voluntary refugee work.
